Campers participating in swimming programs must be assigned a buddy. Campers shall be paired, whenever possible, to a buddy of the same swimming ability. When a non-swimmer is paired with a buddy other than a non-swimmer, both must remain in the non-swimming area. One threesome per ability level shall be allowed when needed.
The buddy concept provides an easy method of checking the status of bathers and provides each camper a personal protector. Each camper shall be instructed on what his/her response should be if his/her buddy experiences trouble while swimming or becomes missing (notify lifeguards and counselors immediately).
Buddy checks shall be conducted a minimum of every fifteen minutes during all bathing activities. The signal used to call a Buddy Check shall be a whistle being blown and the lifeguard calling buddy check. A clipboard shall be used to account for the bathers and shall include the following:
ALL GROUP LEADERS MUST HAVE BUDDY SHEET FILLED OUT PRIOR TO ENTERING THE POOL WITH THEIR GROUP!!
