Buddy Check

On the first day of camp, all campers shall have their swim ability determined by the progressive instructor (WSI) or approved equivalent prior to being allowed to swim. Campers shall be segregated into the following classes: swimmer, intermediate, and non-swimmer. Campers shall be segregated to a swimming area according to their ability.

South Shore has two pools. The wading pool is used for non-swimmers. The main pool is divided into 3 sections, and the bathers are confined to the area designated for their level of ability.

The maximum water depth for non-swimmers shall be determined by the individual's chest height. Aquatic staff shall measure the chest height of each non-swimmer. Non-swimmers shall not be allowed in water above chest height. All non-swimmers shall be easily identified from swimmers by the use of wrist bracelets.
