Lost Swimmer Plan

All staff shall be trained in the Lost Swimmer Plan.

Training shall stress the importance of speed and thoroughness.

Staff shall be instructed to immediately notify the nearest lifeguard and request a water search. The following actions shall be taken promptly:

Clear the water of all bathers.
Provide and maintain adequate supervision for all campers.
For water with poor visibility a grid search shall be initiated.
Using the "buddy" roster, confirm the identity of the missing bather.
Notify the Camp Director.
Begin a land search, searching all high-risk areas first.
If the missing bather remains unaccounted for, widen the land search.
Request a Police response via 911.
Notify Parents/Guardians.
Notify the Health Department.
