After Camp: Phone & E-Mails

At the end of the summer, your campers might ask for your screen name, e-mail address, or phone number so they can stay in touch. Do not give it to them. In fact, although this sounds terrible, you should not be communicating with campers during the off-season. This can lead to BIG problems for you. And yes, this includes Instant Messaging. There are instances of staff coming home from college parties, in a party state of mind, and having college type conversations with elementary school age campers via the computer. Needless to say this is extremely inappropriate. If you want to keep in touch with your campers, both you and the camper should send the correspondences through the camp office. This takes the liability and the possibility of inappropriate communications off your shoulders.
