Driver Information
Our main objective is to get campers to and from camp safely. Drivers need to familiarize themselves with the following polices and procedures:
- PRIOR TO CAMP
- All drivers will receive bus route. Once route is refined - give copy to office.
- Practice run - leave slip with driver info in camper's mailbox.
- STARTING PROCEDURES
- Drivers will walk around bus and do a pre-inspection of vehicle before doing daily run.
- Start bus. Report any mechanical problems to office immediately.
- Check gas - never leave tank less than half full. Get gas at Gulf on Newbridge Road. Sign slip and attach to mileage sheet. NEVER FILL BUS WITH CHILDREN ON IT.
- Fill out Mileage sheet before starting run and hand in at the end of the day.
- Check office for messages before starting your run.
- PICK UP AND DELIVERY PROCEDURES
- Bus will pick up campers on the passenger side of the street.
- Beep horn - if camper does not come out - call house with cell phone.
- Leave house if no answer after 3 minutes on a pick up.
- When delivering a child, NEVER LEAVE CHILD UNLESS AN ADULT IS THERE TO RECEIVE THE CHILD.
- Mark attendance sheet when camper enters bus - wait until camper puts on seat belt before departing.
- Parents are not allowed on bus.
- Do not discuss the bus route with Parents - please tell them to call the office.
- Speed limit for buses is 50 MPH on highway. Follow speed limits on local roads.
- Enter Camp Parking lot with caution.
- Give absentee list to staff person checking in your bus.
- Help children off with seat belts - check that all seats are empty and there are NO sleeping children.
- Leave windows open and keys in the bus during the day - lock up and close windows at the end of the day - give mileage sheet and attendance sheet to office.
- DRIVING PROCEDURES
- Drivers must wear a headset to answer cell phone or pull over to make a call.
- No personal cell phone calls should be made while driving the bus.
- NO EATING ON BUS - staff and children!
- Keep bus clean and filled with gas.
- Buses are to be used for bus runs ONLY - do not use the bus for personal errands or use.
- Drivers should NEVER leave children in the bus unattended.
- IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT
- CALL CAMP IMMEDIATELY - keep children calm.
- Fill out ACCIDENT REPORT which is located in registration pouch.
