Goals for Campers
Our challenge this summer is to help each camper work towards achieving these goals:
- 1. CAMPER HAS FUN
- Set the tone every morning. Use a fun greeting.
- Smile. Be silly.
- Have fun yourself.
- 2. CAMPER CONNECTS TO COUNSELORS
- Find a way to connect to each camper.
- Do not play favorites.
- Address campers by name.
- Be friendly, warm, and sensitive.
- 3. CAMPER TRIES NEW THINGS
- Verbally encourage - you can do it!
- Do "new things" with camper.
- Use baby steps. Break task down into smaller chunks.
- 4. CAMPER IS ABLE TO MAKE A FRIEND AND BE A FRIEND
- Know the friendships that exist within the group.
- Assign and rotate buddies.
- Be proactive with children who need more help.
- 5. CAMPER DEMONSTRATES AGE-APPROPRIATE INDEPENDENCE
- Set clear expectations.
- Set up systems and routines.
- Give ongoing reminders of expectations.
- 6. CAMPER IS KIND TO OTHERS IN GROUP
- Set the tone.
- Recognize kind words and actions.
- Have zero tolerance for unkind words and actions.
- 7. CAMPER ENJOYS, LEARNS, AND IMPROVES SKILLS AT ACTIVITIES
- Know each child's interests and abilities for all activities.
- Work with campers 1:1 when needed.
- Be enthusiastic for all activities.
- 8. CAMPER IS AN INVOLVED GROUP MEMBER
- Build excitement about being a group member.
- Implement team building activities.
- Reinforce teamwork behavior.
